About Us

Birgunj Nursing Campus (BNC) was established in 2032 BS, which is a constituent campus of Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine (T.U.I.O.M) with a mandate to work towards developing socially responsible and competent health workforce, providing health care and engaging in health research. The Institute is located in northern Nepal and it has extended its continued health services through teaching district concept to Primary Health Care Centers, District Hospitals and sub-regional Hospitals in three districts of the region. The campus is only one government campus of nursing existing in Madhesh Pradesh. The Institute is located in eastern Nepal and it has extended its continued health services through teaching district concept to Primary Health Care Centers, District Hospitals and Zonal Hospitals in eight districts of the region.
During its 47 years of existence, Birgunj Nursing Campus has made a significant progress. It has been upgraded its academic program from AHW to undergraduate programmes of Nursing and is looking forward to bring further higher education. In 2038 BS, AHW training program upgraded to Proficiency Certificate level for Health Assistant. With the support of USAID, own building was established and shifted from Reshamkoti - 9 to Birta -4. PCL Nursing program was started in 2043 BS and till now 33 batch i.e. last batch has been running and the program has been phased out in 2077 BS. In 2068, Bachelor in nursing (BN) 2-year Programme with 20 students was started with hospital nursing as major subject and further Bachelor in Nursing Science (BNS) 3-years program was started with 20 students and now upgrade to 40 seats among which 25 seats are allotted for adult nursing, 10 for community nursing and 5 for peadiatric nursing as specialty subject. Similarly, the campus has also started B. Sc. Nursing programme from 2077 BS with 30 seats. At present TU IOM, Birgunj Nursing Campus, is running only under graduate programmes in
nursing i.e. BNS and B. Sc. Nursing.

personnel of optimum level of academic excellence and to be recognized as prestigious nursing institute in Madhesh Province to cover the universal health in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.

Mission:
To create and maintain a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, acquisition of knowledge, and development of ongoing professional skills and transform the care in a rapidly changing, diverse and complex health care environment through academic excellence, inventive research, strong partnerships, and global initiatives.
Goals:
1. Qualify for quality assurance accreditation from the UGC.
2. To deliver high quality nursing education compatible to the international standards.
3. To produce the middle to higher level human resources who are qualified and well prepared to work efficiently and handle with the challenging environment in the growing world.
4. To develop Birgunj Nursing Campus as a center of academic excellence and to be recognize as a prestigious government nursing institute for higher nursing education in Madhesh Province.
5. To upgrade and update the existing academic infrastructure.

Future Plan
The campus has built a new building for academic purpose, It is only one storied now but for development and arrangements of own hospital for clinical learning facilities for the overall effectiveness of the programs and grow campus as center of excellence. Other infrastructure like conference hall, auditorium hall, hostel, over-head water tank, pipeline and other supporting infrastructure are planned to be added.
Basic science laboratory of different departments like anatomy, physiology, bio- chemistry, pathology, pharmacology and microbiology will be restructured with adequate equipments, Likewise, Fundamentals of Nursing, skill lab, Midwifery and Paeditric lab, community and nutrition lab will also be well equipped. In addition, the campus has also plan to install inter-communication system in near future
