The objective of the Bachelor of Nursing Program is to produce middle level nursing providers and leaders who are capable of independent judgment, functioning in a leadership positions in the hospital and community; teaching the junior students and conduct research in areas in of nursing.

AIM OF THE BACHELOR OF NURSING SCIENCE PROGRAMME

In accord with national health and educational goals the bachelor of nursing science programme is intended to prepare nurses as faculty for the training of basic and middle level nursing manpower and as care providers managers and supervisors in the community and in the hospitals settings:

Therefore, the overall aim of the bachelor of nursing science programme is to prepare nurses who can use independent judgment in making nursing decisions, function in leadership positions in the provision of health care in the hospital and community teach in nursing and other health programmes and conduct research studies in the clinical and community field areas of nursing practice.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOME OF STUDENTS

At the completion of the three year bachelor of nursing science programme, the graduate should be able to meet the following objectives.

1. Communicate effectively with individuals and different groups of people in a variety of settings.

2. Apply knowledge from the physical, biological, social and health sciences in providing holistic care to individuals, families and communities.

3. Apply the principles of primary health care in planning activities to promote and maintain the health of the community.

4. Make critical decisions by using nursing process in all activities by adapting to situational changes in the working environment.

5. Demonstrate effective teaching skills in formal and non-formal settings to individuals and groups.

6. Use the principles of management while functioning in leadership and supervisory positions in the hospital and community.

7. Identify the impact of socio-political and economical forces in the health and development of the community.

8. Participate in need-based research studies of problems identified in the hospital or community settings.

9. Identify the importance of self-direction for personal and professional development.

10. Demonstrate positive attitude towards all activities that lead to professional growth.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

The selection procedures for the candidates entering into the programme are competency in basic knowledge and skills in nursing. In order to be eligible for acceptance into the programme, the candidate:

  • Must have at least 2 years of nursing experience after getting registered in Nepal Nursing Council following the successful completion of the Proficiency Certificate Level Nursing Programme and
  • Must pass the entrance examination conducted by IOM.

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES

Candidates desiring to enter into the programme must take the entrance examination which consists of a comprehensive examination in the related subjects. Candidates will be selected on the basis of merit list of the entrance examination. In order to be in the merit list, the candidate must pass the entrance examination by securing a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. The specified number of candidates for the programme will be selected from the top of the merit list. The result of the entrance examination will be valid for that academic year only.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT

Bachelor of nursing science programme is full time academic programme. In order to receive the bachelor of nursing science degree, a student must complete 3 academic years and must:

1. Attend 70% of each theory course before being allowed to sit for internal assessment.

2. Attend 90% of the practicum in order to pass the practicum.

3. Must pass the internal assessment in each subject before being allowed to sit for the annual final examination in the respective courses.

EXAMINATION POLICIES:

1. Students must sit for internal assessments and final examinations on the specified dates set for the examinations.

Exception: If the student cannot appear in the regular internal assessment, she will be allowed to sit for it on another date only if she submits a written application with appropriate evidence to the coordinator or the Head of the Department before the date of the examination.

2. If the student fails in the internal assessment, she will be given only one more chance for reassessment before the final examination.

3. Students must pass all theory courses with a minimum of 50% mark and all practicum courses with a minimum of 50% marks.

4. There will be final examination for both theory and practical courses.

5. There will be oral examination in certain practical subjects.

FIELD PRACTICUM POLICIES

1. Students will not be allowed to take their family during residential field practicum.

2. Family members and friends may visit the field only on Saturday and public holidays but must not remain overnight.

3. Students are not allowed to leave the assigned field area for overnight without permission from the coordinator or the field supervisor.

4. If the student's performance is found continually unsatisfactory due to ill health or other reasons, she will not be allowed to continue.
